Analytical Equipment

The water activity meter is used to measure the amount of water in food that is available for microogranisms to grow. It provides a reading from 0.0 – 1.0 where 1.0 is pure water, and 0.0 is bone dry.

Gel electrophoresis is used to separate proteins based on charge and size. IBRL has equipment to run both agarose gel and SDS-PAGE.

The mini gel tank is used for SDS-PAGE and can accomodate up to two gels per run. The tank is compatible with all Invitrogen pre-cast mini gels and SureCast handcast gels.

The instrument simultaneously measures viscosity and torque. The results are displayed in cP or mPa.s. Torque measurement accuracy is 1% of full scale range and repeatability is 0.2% of full scale range.

Ion Selective Electrode (ISE) is used to measure dissolved ammonia in aqueous solution. Accuracy of ISE is ±0.2 mV or ±0.05% of the reading.

This equipment provides a measurement for the amount of suspended solids or cloudiness in a liquid using light. IBRL Inventory # 58-046
